COURSE 21 - MINISTRY GIFT OF PROPHET » Prophet Ezekiel

Prophet Ezekiel is a story the stuck out and love. The single most profound thing about Ezekiel’s ministry is how God turned Ezekiel’s own life into a living, costly parable not just using his words, but making his body, his marriage, his emotions, and even his silence a visible sermon to the people. In a time when the exiles were numb with despair and the people still in Jerusalem were in denial, God didn’t just send a messenger; He made the messenger himself the message! Ezekiel was repeatedly commanded to act out the Word of the Lord in ways that were physically exhausting, socially humiliating, and personally devastating. God essentially said, Your life will be the billboard. He shaved his head and beard, then divided the hair into thirds, burning one third, striking one third with a sword, and scattering the last third to the wind to dramatize the three ways the people would be judged (Ezekiel 5:1-12). Another which is most heartbreaking of all: when God took Ezekiel’s wife the delight of your eyes in sudden death, Ezekiel was forbidden to mourn publicly. He was to sit in stunned silence as a sign that the temple (the delight of their eyes) was about to be destroyed and the people would be too devastated even to mourn (Ezekiel 24:15-27). I just love the story of Ezekiel !!

1 commentsI absolutely agree this is why he is my favorite prophet in the bible. The measures that the father used in his call would make you want to renounce the call. But he stood even though I'm sure he felt like he was drowning.
