6-2 CULTS & WORLD RELIGION » Translation Back to Christ

Vanessa Howell
This scenario happens more than we think of some Christians turning from Christ to a cult or some other form of demonic belief system. It honestly reminds me of the prodigal son from Luke 15:11-32. Although one son went astray, he realized his error, repent and returned to his home where he was welcomed with open arms by his father. With this scenario the first of three scriptures I would use to convince him to come back to Christ is Ephesians 4:14-15 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the headâ€Christâ€. The second scripture would be 2 Peter 2:20-21 for if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. 21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them. The final scripture would be Romans 12:2 and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
These scriptures were chosen because they point out the error of following anything other than Christ but it also provides a way of escape and opportunity, just like the prodigal son, to return back to what he knew was right in the beginning.

There were multiple demonic spirit influencing the person including the spirit of error, seducing spirit, spirit of pride, lying spirit and the spirit of antichrist. The person was being argumentative, defensive and believing in false doctrine which are characteristics of the spirit of error. He was being anti-Christian and trying to use the word in a deceitful manner just as the devil did which aligns with the spirit of the antichrist. The person was fascinated with signs and wonders and wondered from the truth which is evidence of the seducing spirit. He displayed the spirit of haughtiness/pride in rejecting God and being self righteous when anyone tried talk to him about Jesus. There was also the lying spirit in speaking contrary to the word of God and the spirit of divination because this community had tithing to his pastors more than he was able to give. Many of these spirits overlap but he was influenced by many.

This scenario happens more often than we realize, many people who once followed Christ end up drifting into cults or other deceptive belief systems. It reminds me of the parable of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11â€32. Even though the son walked away, he eventually recognized his mistake, repented, and returned home, where his father welcomed him with open arms. That same hope applies here, walking away doesn’t have to be the end of the story.

Vanessa, I agree with you that many Christians turn from Christianity to enter cults. Oftentimes when newcomers come into the church and experience lukewarm Christians with no power, they turn to the World. But the problem is, they are two busy looking at people and not Christ. The church has a responsibility to not lift themselves up, but lift and teach Christ who is love. Scripture says in John 12:32, If I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all men unto me.
