4-1 LIFE OF CHRIST » Why the humanity of Christ is so important to Christianity

Paula Bingham
The humanity of Christ is so important to Christianity because we need to know that it is possible to live a holy, sanctified, righteous life filled with miracles on this earth. Many people think that just because Jesus was God, He alone is the only one that will perform miracles and live a righteous and holy life. Jesus was both 100% man and 100% God. The Bible tells us clearly in passages highlighting His deity and humanity side by side. One of the clearest statements of Jesus’ deity is found in John 1:1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Later, Scripture declares that the Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us (John 1:14), pointing to His true humanity. Christs' existence on earth was to save us from sin, but to also show us how to live a victorious life on this earth, in human form. The same things Jesus did, we are expected as Ambassadors of Christ to do as well. Scripture tells us in John 14: 12-14, Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

When Christ ascended to the Father, He sent us Holy Spirit (which is His Spirit) to live on the inside of us. This is comforting to know because it is not us doing the work, but Him through us. He is the healer, deliverer, protector, provider, keeper, etc... We can do nothing without Christ. He has equipped us with everything we need to live and do the work He has required us to do on this earth. Scripture says in 2 Peter 1:3, that according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. This is why we give God ALL the glory, honor and praise; It is due to Him, not us! When we truly look at Christ's life on earth as the blueprint for how to live, we will be successful on this earth.

Your point about the Holy Spirit is especially up lifting. Christ did not leave us to figure things out on our own. He sent His Spirit to empower, guide, and equip us. As you referenced in 2 Peter 1:3, everything we need for life and godliness has already been supplied. That truth keeps us humble, because the glory belongs to God, not us, and yet it also strengthens us, because He truly enables us to do what He has called us to do.

Christ in humanity is very important it is how we were saved and redeemed back to our heavenly Father. We have to except Jesus as Lord of our lives and live as he did, do as he did, and he knew how we were because he was here in the flesh too. He knew that without him here we would need help doing God's will he sent us Holy Spirit. And if we ask anything in his name, he will give it. Thanks Paula, very good key points.

Paula, I agree that the humanity of Christ is essential because it shows that Jesus lived a holy and victorious life as a real man, giving us a model we can actually follow. His life reminds us that God understands our struggles and empowers us to overcome them. The Bible says, For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin (Hebrews 4:15 KJV), proving His true humanity. It also declares, Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps (1 Peter 2:21 KJV), showing that His earthly life is our pattern for living in victory today. Powerful discussion and response Paula.

Paula, I agree. Jesus is our heavenly example! Jesus understood what we will go through and what it took to live on earth. Jesus walked in every aspect of humanity because he was the creator and he became the creation.
