1-2 FOUNDATIONS OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE » What are some of the implications of the true ekklesia operating in the world today?

Paula Bingham
Some of the implications of the true ekklesia operating in the world today is love, unity and faith. Christ declares that we are His church and if we belong to him, we bear his characteristics. One of those characteristics is Love. The scripture says in John 13: 34 -35, that by this will all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. Love is higher than any other characteristic of God or fruit of the spirit, because God is Love. When we truly love others, whether they be strangers, enemies or our friends, we are exemplifying the true ekklesia. When others see us, they should see Christ in us.

The second implication of the true ekklesia is unity. Scriptures says in 1 Corinthians 1:10 that there should be no division among us but that we be unified in the same mind and the same judgement. When love abides, we will have unity, unity with our brethren and unity in the spirit. We will have unity with our brethren when we consider them higher than ourselves. And we will have unity in the spirit when we obey His voice. Unity in the spirit brings peace of mind, joy, patience, self- control and humility. Our thoughts should be the thoughts of Christ, and our actions should reflect that as well in our daily life.

Another implication of the true ekklesia is our faith. How can we spread the gospel of Christ with true conviction without faith? We need faith that whatever God promised to do, no matter how long it takes or what it looks like, God is faithful to his promises. The Apostles carried the gospel and was able to perform miracles among the people because of their faith in Christ Jesus. They suffered persecutions and trials, but continued the movement due to their faith in Christ. The bible says in Hebrews 11: 6, that without faith it is impossible to please Him: for He that cometh to Him must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. It was the early Apostles faith that pleased God and made them so successful in all they did for Him. They had to know that God was with them everywhere they went, and that He was never going to leave or forsake them.

Ms. Paula, thank you for sharing your post. I agree we are God's people and must demonstrate characteristics like him. Love is very important. I was just sharing with a co-worker today how marriage teaches you to be like God each day. It shows us how God extends his grace and love to us even when we do not deserve it and continue to do our own thing. We must love God and love His people.

Paula I loved that you pointed out that the true ekklesia should reflect Christ through love, unity, and faith (so powerful Paula)! Jesus said, By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another (John 13:35), reminding us that love is the foundation of our witness. Unity is also vital, for Paul urged the church to be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment (1 Corinthians 1:10). Finally, faith empowers us to please God and carry out His mission, as without faith it is impossible to please him (Hebrews 11:6), showing that the true ekklesia must fully trust in God's promises. Loved your response!

Paula I agree with all three areas you outlined and the one that stuck out to me the most was having faith as evidence the ekklesia is still present today. The word says you can have faith as small as a mustard seed and you can move mountains. Matthew 17:20 It doesn't take a lot but the little bit we have can do extraordinary things. There are miracles still being performed today because of our faith. In Luke 8:48 Jesus said, daughter, be of good cheer, your faith has made you well, go in peace. It pleases the Lord when we have faith and there is not an age restriction, little kids to our elderly can have faith and receive God's healing and deliverance. The ekklesia is alive and well!
