Intro to Core Courses » One of the most significant things of the History of Christianity & my Expectations

Sandra Lately
I aways had an interest in how Constantine the Great was able to change the day of worship for the Jewish people. Our church has put our service back on the Sabbath Day as God had it. Now after watching the video of The First 1000 years of Christianity, it was not easy for Christians back then they were persecuted and some even killed. But they were determined to keep going, they taught the word of God in their homes which was mostly taught by women. This should even encourage us that no matter what, keep teaching and preaching the word of God. John 15:18-20 Jesus let us know, If the world hated you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. It was so much in this 3-hour video I have learned a lot, so much is clear to me all these different rulers came, and each one changed something about how Christianity should be, made it very confusing but thanks be to God for the word of God and Holy Spirit to t each us and guide us into all truth and righteousness.

Ms. Sanda, I love your perspective and focus on what you took away from the video. I was also reminded of the steadfast faith the early Christians had as they endured harsh persecution. They remained totally devoted to Christ and the continuation of spreading the Gospel Message throughout the world! Scripture affirms this truth in 2 Timothy 3:12, Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Yes, rulers and traditions through the ages tried to change the practices and very foundation of Christianity, but GOD! God and His unchanging Word, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever! As Jesus declared in John 16:13, When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. This assurance should give us all more strength and more commitment to stay the course and work toward the prize of the High Calling in Jesus Christ!

Christians are still being persecuted today because they chose to follow the one and only true living God. We see it on social media of people being beheaded, shot and mutilated to make statement and with the effort to try to claim a sort of victory. Even in that John 5:28-29 says that the hour is coming in in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth and those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. There is not an escape for those who persecute Christians. We have the power even now to do more and we must not grow weary for the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. Matthew 11:12

Good point Mrs. Sandra! Christians had to deal with harsher persecutions that we have to deal with today in America. Christians during the First 1000 years were beheaded, crucified, stoned, beaten and more. We don't deal with half of that and with the smallest of things, we want to quit! The Word of God never told us that following Him would be easy. As a matter of fact, scripture says in Luke 9:23: Jesus states that anyone who wants to follow Him must deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Him. This signifies a willingness to put aside personal desires and face challenges. He said in John 16:33, that I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world. Trouble will always be there as long as we live on this earth, but He has made us to be overcomers. To be called an overcomer, you must have something to overcome.
