Ministry and the IRS » My views on the importance of understanding the administrative side of ministry
But all things should be done decently and in order. We have to treat the Kingdom of God with the utmost respect and professionalism; just as we do our jobs. The way we do things in the church is oftentimes a reflection of how we do God. While on earth, Jesus did things decently and in order. Judus handled the treasury, Peter was security, Mary and Martha helped fund the ministry and host Jesus, and Luke was a physician. Everyone knew their place and served well.
Those that God has called into the ministry must also have a desire to learn Administration. It's not enough to just learn spiritual things, but you must also be willing to learn natural things. The bible says in Luke 14:28-30, For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’ We must seek training and utilize others in the ministry that know Administration as well. We are all helpers one to another.
I loved that you referenced Luke 12:28-30 which shows the importance of planning and preparation. Ministry is not only about spiritual gifts and passion, but it also requires wisdom, stewardship and accountability. In Proverbs 24:3-4 BY wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. In other words, a strong ministry is not just built on zeal, but thoughtful planning. Thank you for sharing your view! God bless you!
