COURSE 21 - MINISTRY GIFT OF PROPHET » Prophets

I have always been fascinated with the story of Hosea. This book shows the faithfulness and love of God for a people who are not always faithful. The Lord used Hosea to share about His love, judgment, and the call to repentance. Hosea was asked to symbolically show this type of love for Israel when he was commanded to marry an unfaithful prostitute Gomer (Hosea 1:2). The prophetic ministry of Hosea shows God's character of being gracious and compassionate, even when we turn against Him and His will (Hosea 11:8-9). Hosea shows how God is persistent towards us and calls us to return back to Him (Hosea 14:1-2).

3 commentsKristy, Hosea's assignment was definitely interesting. Not many men would have been able to carry this out. God chose Hosea because he was obedient to the call. Obedience is necessary for the prophet. The bible says in 1 Samuel 15:22 that Obedience is better than sacrifice. God is looking for us to be obedient in all things.
Hosea's assignment was also a dramatic call to repentance for the people of Israel. Prophets also call the people to repent and come back to God. The Lord wants His people to live in holiness and righteousness because he is holy. Prophets serve as instruments of grace, warning of the consequences of sin. Thank God for the prophets who warn.

Paula BinghamKristy your post resonates with me knowing that I have a loving Father who loves us unconditional in spite our makeup or faithfulness. I never knew the story of Hosea thank you for sharing, it humbling to see someone not look at the status of a woman but to be obedient to the Father because the end result will be far bigger than what we can ever expect.

Tawanna TabornKristy thank you for showing us the characters of God through this Prophet. This is also one of my favorite stories. As you said it showed God's graciousness, compassion, and his persistent in coming after his people, who were so unfaithful and even turned their backs on him. God gave chances after chances for His people Israel to turn back to him. This also showed me his patience with his people.
