COURSE 21 - MINISTRY GIFT OF PROPHET » How God used this most profound prophet

Paula Bingham
What I believe was most profound about how God used the prophet Anna in the office of the Prophet was in prayer. Many would not believe that Anna was a prophet, but the bible says that she was indeed a prophet. She was not called to the nations, nor was she called to be international. Anna was not called to speak to earthly Kings, nor to God's people. Anna's main job was to pray for the coming of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an elderly woman of the Tribe of Asher who was called to the Temple of Jerusalem, which was her metron and a chief place of worship. The bible says in Luke 2:37 that she never left the temple but worshiped there with fasting and prayer night and day, which took a level of discipline and maturity. This was essential because prophets must have a life fasting and prayer in order to hear from the Lord.

As a New Testament prophet, Anna foretold what God was telling her about the coming Savior, Jesus Christ. Luke 2:38 says, coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. Through her prophecy, she gave encouragement and hope to all those who were told that the Mesiah would be born. This brought edification, encouragement and comfort to all the people she spoke this to, as stated in 1 Corinthians 14:3. She was a blessing to the Body of Christ.

I heard of the Prophetess Anna who gave her life to pray and fast in the Temple. Thank you, Paula I only knew part of that story. Now I know she was from the Tribe of Asher and that she stayed in the Temple to pray for the coming of Jesus Christ. This just lets me know whatever God called you to do give it your all. Anna was an encourager to the people that came to the Temple believing in the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ. She totally was a blessing to the Body of Christ.

Paula thanks for sharing your story. The story of Anna, the Prophetess, is indeed a sweet story of faith, love, and commitment. The Bible says she was a elderly widow and had been living in the temple since the death of her husband. It reminds me of how a parent may wait to have a grandchild and how proud they are and want to tell everyone about this new precious life. Once she was in the presence of the Messiah she continued to tell others about the one who came to redeem us all.
