COURSE 21 - MINISTRY GIFT OF PROPHET » The Prophet Elijah

Hope Khalil
One of the prophets of the Bible, other than Jeremiah and Isaiah, is Elijah. What I find most profound about how God used him in the office of the prophet is his demonstration of God's power in a time of idolatry and spiritual decline in Israel. Elijah’s ministry is known or remembered by the confrontations against false prophets and the miraculous interventions that proved the ONE TRUE GOD’S POWER! Elijah’s prophetic office was instrumental in restoring true worship, demonstrating God’s power, and maintaining faithfulness even in difficult times. His life reminds us that God can work through powerful miracles, but He also speaks in quiet, personal ways to guide His people.
One of the most powerful moments in Elijah's prophetic ministry was his conflict with the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel. (1 Kings 18:16-40) The people of Israel had turned to worship Baal under the influence of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Elijah challenged at least ,450 prophets of Baal to call on their god to send fire on a sacrifice. After they failed, Elijah prayed to God, and then fire came from heaven, consuming the sacrifice, the altar, and even the water around it (1 Kings 18:36-38). This moment proved that his God was the One True God, leading His people to proclaim, The LORD, He is God! The LORD, He is God! (1 Kings 18:39).

Elijah was one prophet who was used greatly by God! Before running from Jezebel, he was confident and bold in God. He stood in the face of all the prophets of Baal and called down fire. The bible says in Proverbs 28:1, that the righteous are as bold as lions. Confidence is a necessity for a prophet. God made them for adversity, so they have to be confident in what God says. They can't waiver and compromise God's truth, but they must remain faithful in saying and doing what God say, despite the opposition.

I agree that Elijah was greatly used in the Bible and I wrote about him as well. When God said GO he went and allowed himself to be used by God. I agree that it was so powerful for him to stand in the face of all the Baal prophets and demonstrate the power of God that the people couldn't help but to believe. 1 Kings 18:37-39
