COURSE 21 - MINISTRY GIFT OF PROPHET » Prophets

The prophet John better known as John the Baptist, according to Isaiah 40:3 says, A voice of one calling: In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. He was also called to compel the people to repent of their sinful ways and be baptized with water. He also told them that there is one coming after him who's shoes he was unworthy to loosen that he will Baptize with the Holy Spirit. This is also explained in Matthew 3:11. We are still compelling people to come to Christ and make him Lord of their lives. I believe his mission as a prophet was to preach repentance and to Baptist with water and he also taught the law of Moses.

2 commentsJohn the Baptist truly had a calling upon his life and yes he was prophet calling all to a place of repentance. His prophetic clarion call that one greater than he was coming meaning Jesus is one of the most recognized stories in the Bible. John recognized Jesus when he saw him not knowing what he looked like but by his spirit. In John 1:29 it says John (the Baptist) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, Behold!! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Ms. Sandra, thank you for giving me more insight, of the work and charge that was on the life John the Baptist, the Prophet. I looked at John the Baptist through the lens of an Evangelist, preacher and heralder of repentance. You inspired me to look at the Book of Matthew and to take a closer look and I found where John the Baptist did fulfill Isaiah's prophecy to prepare the way of the Lord; make His paths straight! In Luke 1:76 NLT, Zechariah prophesied, And you my little son, will be called the prophet of the most high, because you will prepare the way of the Lord. How awesome is that to be prophesied over, as a baby, before one has taken their first step or spoken their first words, that you will be making the way for the King of Kings and Lord of Lords by proclaiming, He is the Lord and Savior of the world! He fulfilled his purpose on this earth and did pave the way for our Lord Jesus. Thank you again for responding in such a way that I wanted to dig a little deeper to become more acquainted with John the Baptist as a prophet. My prayer is that all will know the salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ by repenting and acknowledging Jesus Christ, their Lord and Savior!
