COURSE 16 - GIFTS OF THE FATHER » Motivational Gifts Least Utilized

Kristy Hammond
The motivational gifts are vital in how we serve and impact the body of Christ. I believe the gift that is least utilized or understood is mercy. As a people operating within the world I believe we have lost our compassion for others (mercy). The gift of mercy is undervalued on the importance of bringing grace, restoration, and healing to others. According to our notes, this is the heart of the body. This gift involves compassion and understanding of the pain and struggles of others. Matthew 5:7 says, blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. It is about supporting individuals beyond surface level, but diving deeper into the emotional and spiritual needs of others. This gift allows others to feel seen, loved, and accepted. Operating in the gift of mercy is not easy for all. It requires a willingness and ability to listen and respond. Luke 6:36 says. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

Kristy I agree that the gift of mercy is undervalued and under utilized. It requires us to slow down, listen to one another and then have compassion. It's not something you do with a pen stroke or one hug, it's so much more than that. In Isaiah 30:18 it says therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; and therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him. We should wait on one another as we wait on God for he is merciful.

Agreed, the gift of mercy is definitely undervalued. The motivational gift of mercy represents the heart and the bible says in Mathew 24:12 that because of the increase of wickedness, the love in the hearts of many will grow cold. How is it that we can just walk pass people who are hungry and in need and it doesn't affect us? How is it that we can have the resources to help someone and still don't? The bible says in Mathew 25: 42 - 26, For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’ Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’ And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’ And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life. If we are the righteous and are in right standing with God, we should have His heart. When Christ was on earth, He had compassion on people and helped them in their time of need, regardless of if they were a believer or not.

The gift of mercy is undervalued. People do not show a lot of mercy for others that are going through something. Where we are to show mercy, some people look down on the less fortunate and not willing to get involve because of many reasons. The word says in James 2:13 For judgement is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgement. Some feel they have enough of their own troubles and not willing to help others, but they will have their day in judgement according to James 2:13. These are great points Kristy, once we come into the knowledge of the word of God, we are responsible to do the word of God.
