COURSE 16 - GIFTS OF THE FATHER » Gifts of the Father that is Underutilized

Vanessa Howell
I believe the gift of prophesy is not used as much in the church, that has been my experience. In 1 Corinthians 14:1 it says to pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy. By the spirit we can all prophesy so it is strange to me that it is either not acknowledged or utilized is many churches. We must believe that we can and also make room for people God wants to use in the prophetic. In 1 Corinthians 14:31 it also says for you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged. Many times people are afraid of the prophetic as it corrects, it warns and it also encourages. I pray that the body of believers open up to receive the prophetic, we need to desire it as it's in the word of God. Amen

Ms. Vanessa thanks for sharing your thoughts. Although, this is not the gift that I chose, it was second in the lineup. I agree that this gift is often overlooked and misunderstood in many churches. Prophecy does bring a word of warning that is so needed and vital to the church. We need to be in prayer and our word so we can make sure we have a clear understanding and so that we can identify those who prophesy falsely.

Ms. Vanessa,
I agree whole heartedly that we make room for believers that desire to use the prophetic. The reference you used ,1 Corinthians 14:31 backs up this view you and I share! It says specifically in that verse, for you can all prophesy one by one, that all may learn and all may be encouraged! People know that God's Word is truth and if someone uses the gift of prophecy with the Holy Spirit's power and enlightenment, it is the truth! The book of John and 1 John, it mentions that the Spirit is truth! The Holy Spirit usses us as a sounding board! As you mentioned, everyone is not ready to hear the truth so fear can play a big factor of people steering clear of this gift. However, this gift encourages and lifts the believer to make things clear for them! I too pray that the body of believers are more open to receive the prophetic gift.
