COURSE 16 - GIFTS OF THE FATHER » Gift that Should be Used More!

Hope Khalil
In the book of Romans 12:6-8, there are seven gifts mentioned, sometimes called motivational gifts in which each of us, according to grace, has been given from God. Each of us has different gifts. We are encouraged to use the gift or gifts we have been given, yet some are reluctant to do so, for whatever reason. We should be using our gifts for the common good, 1 Corinthians 12:7, and 1 Peter 4:10 and honoring God. No one person (believer) has all gifts and that is why we need each other, to build the kingdom of God. Some of these gifts are used more than others. I believe people, in general, are not truly aware of these gifts or the gifts that they might possess. Speaking in tongues is probably the best example of a gift that is less likely to be utilized or understood. Jesus mentioned speaking in tongues in Mark 16:17 Jesus was prophesying to His apostles what was to come since He mentioned this before Pentecost. He told them that speaking in tongues was one sign that would follow believers. Can you imagine how difficult it must have been before Pentecost to believe the gift of speaking in tongues? People have a difficult time today, wrapping their minds around speaking in a language they have never studied and then being able to speak in that unfamiliar language suddenly. That is the difference between carnal-minded thinking and having a renewed mind, like Christ. As the believer reads God's Word and is open to the Holy Spirit leading, in and through themselves, using the prayer language, there comes an understanding of what speaking in tongues is and it is no longer a mystery to the believer. Again, speaking in tongues is a believer's prayer language speaking utterances /words from Heaven. It is so powerful that not even Satan himself can understand or translate a believer's prayer language. With that said, the enemy sows seeds of fear in people's minds concerning speaking in tongues. People fear the unknown and Satan knows how powerful, our prayer language is and trembles at the very thought of God's Power in every utterance of our prayer language/ speaking in tongues. So, fear is a big factor in why people do not use this gift as much because they do not have a good understanding. That is where we come in as believers and the power of the Holy Spirit, to help guide and show others what each gift is and its function to build the Kingdom of God.
