COURSE 15 - GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT » Gifts of the Spirit in the Modern-day Church

Kristy Hammond
The gifts of the spirit allow believers to fulfill the mission of God's work, edify the church, and continue to demonstrate the power of God in the world. The gifts allow God's work to continue and ensure the Word of God is spread throughout the world and that people are served. I Corinthians 12:4-7 says, There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. This passage highlights that the Spirit gives various gifts for the benefit of all, ensuring that the Church can function as a united body.
The gifts of the spirit serve as tangible demonstrations of God's divine power and love. They are concrete representations of the Word of God. They are not only tools for the believers but also serve as visible proof of the Word of God in action, drawing people toward Christ. Acts 1:8 says, But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. The gifts of the Spirit are necessary for the modern-day Church to effectively fulfill its mission, to serve one another, and to be a powerful witness to the world.

Kristy, I totally agree with you regarding the fact that the gifts of the spirit are to serve others. The gifts of the spirit are to benefit others and not ourselves. The bible says in John 15: 5 It says apart from Him we can do nothing. The spirit does all the work , and He does it when he wants, how He wants and where He wants.

The gifts are also not to make a profit. It is freely given to us by Holy Spirit, and He wants us to freely use it without trying to make money with it. The Word profit in 1 Corinthians 12: 7 when it says, But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all, means to benefit. He was us to use the gifts of the spirit for His glory and honor. The manifestation of the spirit is to put the focus on the spirit and not on us. He shows that He really lives on the inside of us.

Kristy, you have explained this so well thank you for the understanding and clarity you brought to this topic. I love this I Corinthians 12:4-7 says, there are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. We can all be doing something different, but our God never change. This blesses me Thanks you for a great post.
