Christian Counseling 1-1 » Understanding the basic principles and therapies of clinical counseling

Yashica Butler
As stated in the course, handout clinical skills can add to what the Holy Spirit gives. Though the Christian Counselor approach is the Holy Spirit, it is very important for the counselor to understand the clinical aspect of counseling so they can fully render complete healing to the counselee. As the Holy Spirit reveals to the Christian Counselor what the counselee is dealing with, the counselor can discern and understand what He is revealing to them so that they may be able to rightly diagnose the counselee. Because not all mental illnesses or issues are demonically influenced, the Christian Counselor needs to be fully educated in clinical knowledge and medical terminology. With the Holy Spirit being the Spirit of Truth (John 16:13), and He searches out all things (1 Cor 2:10) nothing that the counselee is dealing with will be hidden, which guarantees their complete healing if they are involved.
As the Christian Counselor takes into account the basic principles and therapies of Clinical Counseling he/she gets a better understanding of what to look for in the counselee. As we discussed in class, not all issues are demonically influenced but some may stem from other issues. As stated in class, knowing the basic clinical skills are an asset to the Christian Counselor.
