COURSE 13 - FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT » Uncultivated Fruit

Kristy Hammond
Within the body of Christ, the manifestation of the fruit of the spirit that I believe to be often uncultivated is self-control. We sometimes see this when emotions or actions are a struggle to control, especially within relationships. It could also be due to immediate desires and culture. One example, if an individual often reacts in anger or makes impulsive decisions, it could indicate lack of self-control. Anger can lead to sin and the Bible is clear in Ephesians 4:26 when it says, In your anger so not sin: do not let the sun go down while you are still angry. We must have self-control in all situations, even when it is difficult. The Bible shares the importance of self-control in Proverbs 25:28, which says, Like a city whose walls are broken is a person who lacks self-control. Lack of self-control may show up as impatience or negativity. When we cultivate self-control we can create an environment that is loving, peaceful, and everyone thrives. Galatians 5:22 shares that self-control is a fruit of the spirit; it is vital for us to demonstrate God's character.

I appreciate you analogy about self-control and you are on point. Having a lack of self-control could lead to so many other sins. Self-control has to be excised at all times and we must remember that we are to walk in the Spirit but we fall short sometimes. We know in Romans 3:23 it says for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Although this is true we should still strive to control ourselves, yes prayer works, God is always available to us. Thank you Jesus!
Tawanna Taborn
Kristy yes uncontrolled emotions will lead you lack self-control. That can create struggles in all types of relationships, I agree with understanding your emotion and where the negative emotions steam from to gain a sense of self-control. I had to work on that to be able to share it with my children. 1 Corinthian 9:27 But I discipline body and bring it into subjection lest when I have preached to others, I, myself should become qualified.
