COURSE 12 - INSPECTING YOUR SPIRITUAL ROOTS » Stunted Spiritual Growth

One way a negative spiritual root had impeded the spiritual growth of believers is fear. Sometimes fear can stop us in our tracks and literally paralyze us and have us in a place where we fell stuck. We know the words says in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind. It is important to cling to the Word of God and remain in his presence to examine where that seed of fear came from. In our teaching with Dr. Riley we learned that fear has deep roots and one of its fruits is the fear of failure. It is good to replace the thoughts on the fear of failure or fear in general with the word of God as it says in Proverbs 3:5-6 trust in in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. When we put our trust in God and believe his word he shows us that there is absolutely nothing that is impossible with God.

1 commentsVanessa, thanks for sharing. I agree fear can paralyze us and have us feeling trapped. I have experienced this in my own life and have had to pray this 2 Timothy 1:7 scripture. Sometimes it can be a constant reminder to self. Proverbs 3:5-6 was one of the first scriptures I learned and I have indeed treasured it in my heart.
