COURSE 11 - CHRISTIAN ROOT SYSTEM » Growth as a Christian

Sandra Lately
To maintain and cause growth as a Christian I believe one thing would be obedience. The scripture in 1 Samuel 15:22 says, And Samuel said, Hath the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. This means that it's better to obey and be submissive to God than offering the fat of rams. I know prayer and obedient are important roots in the Christian foundation. 1 John 2:5 it says, But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. God communicate with us through prayer and then we must obey the instructions that he gives us. We have to be doers of the word and not hearers only, James 1:22 says you deceiving your own selves.

Sandra,
I love the scripture you began your response with, 1 Samuel 15:22 because it reminds me that by obeying God, we honor Him! Yes, I absolutely agree with you we should obey the guidance and leading of the Holy Spirit as we study and read God's Word. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path! Psalm 119:105 Light is necessary to navigate in this world of darkness! You soundly responded with using several scriptures to show the importance of praying, listening to God, then obeying Him to do what He guides us to do in being doers of the Word with the help of the Holy Spirit! God bless you!
