Angels are always sent on assignment. They can either be sent for information, spiritual warfare, protection and etc. However, majority of the church does not utilize the function of them well.
In my opinion, many churches do not know the functions of angels. Many denominations stray from the knowledge and power behind the supernatural. In Hosea 4:6, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge... So many unknowingly lack knowledge because of traditions or avoidance. However, one area that I heard many churches discuss angels are pertaining to protection and fighting. This is mentioned in a popular passage of Psalm 91:11, For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.'' Therefore, I believe the church does not utilize the other areas much.

Temarian you are right many churches do not teach on angels and their function in the Body of Christ. Also many don't preach or teach about Hosea 4:6, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Unfortunately God's people suffer destruction because of lack of knowledge, which is rejection of the knowledge of God's word.
