COURSE 7 - UNDERSTANDING THE GODHEAD » The Benefits of Knowing the Hebrew Names of God

Hope Khalil
The benefit Christians have today, in understanding the meaning of God Hebrew name is
knowing who God is, in all His functions! From the very beginning, God was and has always
been the first person of the Godhead. There is only one God, which is God Jehovah the
Father of Israel. The Hebrew meaning of Av means father, parent, head, chief, advisor,
and counselor. All of God names reveal His attributes, character, and nature. He is so
amazing, complex, and awesome, that one name cannot describe who He is to each of
us! In Hebrews 12:9, He is called the father of spirits or souls. Knowing the different
names, in which He functions, for example, as a Father, Av, as Jehovah that heals, Jehovah
Rapha, or the God of peace, Jehovah Shalom, brings prayer to a whole new level for the
believer. How? Being able to communicate with God and calling out His name(s), keeping
in mind the function of the name, in which you called upon, makes each prayer more
specific to God! How wonderful is it to know, that God planned this powerful and clear
communication for believers and Himself! That in truly knowing Him, we as believers would
benefit from that very thing. To know Him is to love Him and in finding that love we are
saved! John 3:16 For God so loved the world, He gave His only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. The greatest
benefit of all! Eternal life! Amen, Selah.

Hope I love that you said knowing God in all his functions is key because they are limitless! We are taught to pray specific prayers which includes using God's specific name for the situation for which is needed. I agree that our communication is strengthened when we call upon that is need for a specific time like Jehovah Rapha is our healer and Jehovah Nissi is our Banner. In Exodus 17:15 Moses built an altar and called its name, The-Lord-Is-My-Banner meaning he goes before me. God makes so much available to us as Christians and I am eternally grateful for his care and concern for his children that we will all come to the saving grace and knowledge of his son Jesus Christ.

In knowing the different names of God does helps to get to know him on a more intimate and personal level. These names do reveal his character and his attributes and his nature. This allows us to interact with him and him to interact with us. The functions of his names reveal more of him, Father which is Av or abba hit really close to me after losing my earthly father God reminded me, I'm your father and I'm always there and to get personal God says I will never leave your nor forsake you.
