COURSE 6 - INTRODUCTION TO HERMENEUTICS » Importance of Accurate Biblical Interpretation

We know that the Word of God does not contradict itself and neither should its interpretation. It is important to have accurate biblical interpretation is because every truth or fact must be established by two or three witnesses according to 2 Corinthians 13:1. When the word of God being delivered can be cross-referenced with other scriptures in the same or similar context then the word can be established. One does not want to turn the true word of God into something false when delivering the gospel because it would lead those astray away from God instead of drawing them near to God. (Amos 2:4). When a generation is given lies instead of the true gospel they pass it on to future generations who inherit worthless and unprofitable things according to Jeremiah 16:19. We are called to edify and uplift the Kingdom of God with the TRUTH of God just like Jesus did. In Luke 20:21 it says then they asked Him, saying, Teacher, we know that You say and teach rightly, and You do not show personal favoritism, but teach the way of God in truth.

3 commentsYes Vanessa! Cross referencing one scripture is one way to get a more accurate meaning. There is a is a scripture in 1 Peter 1: 14 that says, As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance. And there is another scripture that says in Ephesians 4:22-24, to put off your old self, which belong to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires. Both scriptures talk about leaving the old man behind. Both scriptures talk about a time before Christ where we were ignorant and sinful. Cross referencing scripture is a great way to study the bible.

Paula BinghamVanessa, I share in your view of interpretation that Gods words does not contradict itself. And it is so important for us to get it correct not from our opinion but from the word of God and Holy Spirit, so we won't cause anyone to stumble. 1 John 2:26-27 says These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but the same anointing teaches you; concerning all things and is true and is not a lie, and just as it is has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Tawanna TabornVanessa, thank you for being so confident in the very first sentence of your response! Very powerful! You reminded us of how we can study, rightly dividing the Word of God, by cross referencing any scripture, with other scriptures, connecting those that have similar context (confirmation of interpretation of the truth). You went on to boldly share what scriptures the Holy Spirit gave you to empower and instill in us the scripture that commissions each of us to share the TRUE GOSPEL in order to draw all men unto Him! And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will I draw all men unto me. John 12:32 (KJV) Be bold Vanessa, in your written words, and words you speak aloud to all! He is with you!
