COURSE 5 - NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY » Jesus Fulfilled the Law

What did Jesus mean when he said He came to fulfill the law? The Old Testament was intended to point us to Christ, who'd bring it to its point at which something is complete. Beginning with Moses and all the prophets he interprets for them the things concerning himself in all the scriptures. And provide us with righteousness making us acceptable before God he had to live a life complete obedience to Gods law. Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all prophets, He expounded to them the scriptures the things concerning himself. Jesus is the New Testament, Gods purpose for the ages.

2 commentsI like the fact that you pointed out that Jesus fulfilled many of the Old Testament prophecies. God cannot tell a lie. In Joshua 21:43 it says So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. God is sharing that he is fulfilling a promise that was made and Jesus does what his father does. John 8:28 says, Then Jesus said to them, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.

Tawanna, you made a great point! The Old Testament was intended to point us to Christ. Mostly all scriptures in the Old Testament speak about Jesus. In Genesis, Jesus was the Seed of the woman that bruised the serpent’s head. Exodus Jesus was our Passover Lamb sacrificed for us. In Leviticus, Jesus was our scapegoat who bore our sins on the cross. In Deuteronomy, Jesus was the prophet like Moses who God raised up, and in Malachi, Jesus had John the Baptist as a forerunner, and He Himself came suddenly to the temple. I could give more scriptures, but you get the point. Jesus was definitely the fulfillment of the Old Testament scriptures.
The Old Testament displays a shadow of Christ whom we experience in the New Testament. Colossians 2: 16-17 says, Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.
