COURSE 5 - NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY » Jesus Fulfilling the Law

Vanessa Howell
In 2 Peter 1:21 it reflects that prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. God inspired man to write the Bible by his spirit and many scriptures were prophecies meaning God foretold things to come. He sent Jesus to not only make atonement for our sins but also to fulfill the law. There were many things written in the Word of God that still have yet to be fulfilled or completed and Revelation 21:1 is a good example that there will be a new heaven and a new earth. The Word of God does not contradict itself and some prophecies from the Old Testament are fulfilled in the New Testament by Jesus as predestined by God.

Vanessa,
Your response brings us to the very place of Jesus's crucifixion, where the last and final sacrifice (Jesus Christ) was brought to pass - the fulfillment. In that very hour, the veil was torn and there was no longer a need for the high priest to bring a blood sacrifice into the Holy of Holies. Christ was the only one who could fulfill the law, by laying down His life, for all of us. I am thankful to the Holy Spirit for giving you your response, which in turn helped me remember the scripture found in Luke 23:44-47 NKJV that Christ gave up His Spirit in the ninth hour ..the curtain of the temple (veil) was in two from top to bottom torn….this was it, the time had come and it was finished. Your response reflects this! Jesus was sent to not only make atonement for our sins but also to fulfill the law. God bless you!

Vanessa you are so right when addressing the Bible and the things to come that has been written that has not been fulfilled. The many promises God has shared and instruction the New Testament has much purpose. Revelation 22:7 Behold. I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book. Revelation 22:14 Blessed is those who do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may enter through the gates into the city.

Vanessa, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree that we needed Jesus for the atonement of our sins. I also appreciate you mentioned that scripture does not contradict itself and that there are some things that have yet to come to pass. The Bible is living, real, and active. It is the road map that God has provided for us.
