COURSE 4 - OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY » Knowing the Bible is Real

Vanessa Howell
I know that the Bible is real because scripture says in Isaiah 55:11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. According to the dictionary void means not valid or completely empty meaning the Word of God does not return invalid or untrue ever. The Bible is the only written word that continues to for tell things to come even in today which was written hundreds of years ago by at least 40 different authors. Dr. Riley pointed out something very important that through this span of more than 1000 years and many authors that not one ever contradicted the other even though they did not live in the same time period. All scripture is given by inspiration of God as reflected in 2 Timothy 3:16a and I believe that God uses the Bible to as instruction for us. It was by the same spirit they wrote that made this possible.

There is no other book of work that can even compare to the Bible, they are all counterfeits. We learned that a rigorous process was in place to vet the books of the Bible. I'm not aware of any other body of work that has gone through this level of scrutiny and spans over 1000 years with multiple writers without contradiction. I know the Bible is real because it keeps pointing us back to God our Father as in John 15:26 But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. God tells us it is the truth. Lastly, I experienced a physical healing having studied and prayed the Word of God on bitterness and unforgiveness. It was a spiritual ailment that manifested itself in my knee that caused difficulty for me to walk or even stand for more than 1-2 minutes at a time. I woke up one day healed and I know the power of the words from the Bible I spoke over my life along with scriptures on repentance God used to help heal me. The words in the Bible have power and since the Bible is given by inspiration of God I know that I know that I know it is real.

Amen, the bible is real and His word will not return unto Him void. There are times that I put the Word to the test and it accomplished everything it said. At one time in my life I struggled with giving extra. I thought after I gave tithes, that was enough; however when I tested the Word of God in this area, it yielded BIG results. The more I gave, the more was given back to me. Scripture says, give and it shall be given unto you. good measure. pressed down, shaken together and running over shall men give unto your bossom. The Word is true!

As a believer and follower of Jesus for 43 years, I have seen much debate, regarding the authenticity as well as the truth of the bible. I have also seen God move in mighty ways in my and other believers' lives.
I believe the Bible is the truth because He, God is called, in Greek, Logos, meaning the Word of God. John 3:12 in the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) reads, If I have told you about things that happen on earth and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you about things of heaven? The book of Psalm 119:160 (KJV), reads Thy word is true from the beginning: And everyone of thy righteous judgments endureth forever. This same scripture, Psalm 119:160, read from the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) says, The entirety of Your word is truth, and all Your righteous judgments endure forever. I love the power behind the translation in this version, the entirety, which Webster's Dictionary defines as the state of being complete, the whole of something. The first mention of God being the creator of the heaven, and the earth is found in Genesis 1:1 KJV, In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. One might ask, what was there before God, and who created God? Both questions point right back to asking the question is the bible the truth? We need to remember; that our eternal Father, God, is not an effect. There was never a time when He did not exist. We must realize that only created things have a creator and we cannot place God in the category of things created. How do we know this, because He reveals Himself in and through His Word, in the Old and New Testament that He has always existed! That is powerful and in spending time in His Word, the presence of the Holy Spirit draws nearer and nearer.
When I became a Christian /translated, I began to feel the very presence of God through the power of the Holy Spirit! The Spirit is truth and very powerful. Through the years, I have matured and grown in Christ (transformation process), in His Word, and in the Spirit. I have experienced that in His Word (in Him), I/we live, breathe, move, and have our being! If we believe what scripture says is true, we can have eternal life! John 3:16 (KJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life! The ultimate sacrifice for the ultimate gift! Yes, I believe with my whole heart that He is Lord, and the Word was made flesh, which was Christ Jesus, that dwelt among us. The Holy Spirit has never left my side nor will He ever! The word reassures us that He is the way, truth, and life! Jesus summed it up in one verse, John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes to the father except through me. I believe all man’s questions of life and belief in the Word, which is God, can be -answered in this verse!
