COURSE 3 - SPIRITUAL GROWTH II » Ways to strengthen our ability to hear, communicate and be led by the Holy Spirit

One of the ways to strengthen our ability to hear, communicate and be led by Holy Spirit is to read the Word of God. Holy Spirit is only going to give us back what is in the Word of God and it will be the truth. John 16:13 says, Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth. If you hear something outside the will of God, it most likely did not come from God because He will only give you back God’s will. Because Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Wisdom as well, you may receive a rhema word that does not come directly, but indirectly, from the Word of God. For an example: Holy Spirit may say for you to give a homeless man some money that day. To decipher if the instruction came from Holy Spirit, all you need to do is look in the Word of God. That particular instruction can be found in Proverbs 14:21 when it says, Blessed is he who gives generously to the poor. When Holy Spirit speaks, you can always reference the Word of God to see if it lines up with the Will of God.
Another way to strengthen our ability to hear, communicate and be led by the Holy Spirit is to be patient and live in expectation. The bible says in Matthew 7:7, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Holy Spirit wants to commune with us, we just have to expect that He will speak while we’re waiting. Oftentimes we don’t want to wait when we’re going through various trials, however patience is necessary and is a fruit of the spirit that we must adhere to. Without patience, it can be easy to mess up and follow the flesh. The bible says in, Psalm 37:7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.

3 commentsThank you Paula for sharing your thoughts. I liked your comment about the Holy Spirit will only give us back what is in the Word of God. I believe this to be true. I was reading so fast that I started to read that we will only get back what we put in. I also believe this is true. We cannot hear and communicate with God if we choose to not open His word or pray. I would say be misreading was a mistake, but I truly believe that God was reminding me that I can only get from Him what I am willing to give through my own personal time with him.

Kristy HammondPaula, I found some encouraging words in your statement, we must have that open line of communication with Holy Spirit this is one of the main ways we get to God it's that first part of our being the inner man the hidden man, because we know through the book by Kenneth Hagin, our spirit man is the main way God communicates with man, because he is Spirit. Our soul and body God has no communications with, because he is not soul and body but Spirit.

Sandra LatelyThank you so much Paula for your insight and I agree that reading the Word of God is key to commune with God. There are scriptures for everything thing that we encounter that we can use the Word of for. For example healing, Isaiah 53:3 says But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. We can declare a thing by using the Word of God and I did that very thing when I had issues with my knee where I could barely walk and could not stand more than 1-2 minutes before I could sit down. I prayed and asked God to heal me, through his Spirit I learned that I needed to repent and forgive and I did. I prayed and cried out to him and he answered my prayers. Then one day I was healed and have been ever since. Glory be to God!
