COURSE 2 -STAGES OF GROWTH » The biggest obstacle to the Transformation process for believers.

Paula Bingham
The biggest obstacle to the Transformation process for believers is the renewing of the mind. Renewing the mind involves replacing worldly ideas, thoughts and imaginations with the Word of God. It also involves abandoning self-laws and coming out of agreement with them. The bible says in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to cast down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. To do this takes discipline and consistency. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 9:27, But I discipline my body and bring it under subjection. Discipline is key to living a successful life as a believer. No athlete can become successful in the sport unless he or she lives a disciplined life with consistency.

To truly be transformed, we must also repent. The Greek word metanoia translated repentance carries the notion of a change of mind. Repentance is not merely asking the Lord for forgiveness, but it requires real change. Repentance is a change in how we think that leads to a change in how we live. When we really change our minds about something, it will change how we think about it, talk about it, feel about it, and act about it.

Thanks Paula for your thoughts. Yes the mind is where the enemy likes to dwell and attack us as we seek transformation. Sometimes we are distracted or just not confident that we are moving in the right direction. The enemy will often use our past against us telling lies that we are not worthy of transformation. In Romans 12:2 we are instructed to not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Our minds are renewed by studying the word of God and yes also by having a repented heart. Also unforgiveness can be obstacle in the transformation process.

Paula thanks for sharing. Your post has some great thoughts. The three things that stood out to me the most and probably is a challenge to others is being disciplined, consistent, and demonstrating real change. When I was reading through our notes I said I still have some work. If I am honest Christ is in my heart, but He is not always presented. The first thing that comes to mind when I think of this is road rage. I sometimes get angry when rushing and it does not demonstrate Christ's goodness at all, but in all honesty there is no need to get upset.
