COURSE 1 - FOUNDATIONS OF BIBLICAL STUDIES » Importance of a relationship with Holy Spirit to effectively interpret scriptures - Paula Bingham

The value of having a relationship with Holy Spirit when studying the Word of God is very important because scripture tells us that the Holy Spirit is the teacher. Scripture says in John 14:26 that the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will bring everything back to your remembrance. Even when we forget, the Holy Spirit will bring things back to our mind at the right time; He is reliable and trustworthy. The Holy Spirit is not only the teacher, but He is the Spirit of Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Might, Counsel and Truth.
In addition, Holy Spirit will also help us apply scripture to your everyday lives. Holy Spirit helps to transform and renew the mind with the Word. When we allow ourselves to be governed by Holy Spirit, He will give us strategy, interpretation and revelation on how to live and be victorious. Scripture says in Proverbs 20:27 that the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly. Holy Spirit will tell us all about ourselves and what we need to eliminate in our lives in order to align ourselves with the Word of God.

3 commentsI enjoyed reading your strong response concerning the value of having a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Especially that the Holy Spirit is not only the teacher, but also the Spirit of Wisdom, Knowledge, Understanding, Might, Counsel, and Truth. I can tell you have experienced this truth firsthand and now confidently glorifying him in this process! As it is written in Isaiah 11: 2 (KJV), And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might ,the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord .

Hope KhalilI appreciate your insight on how the Holy Spirit not only helps us understand what scripture means but also how to apply it. We are in a state of constant learning and Holy Spirit can use one scripture and apply it in different situations unveiling even more revelation. Being a student of the Word and interpreting scripture is critical to have the Holy Spirit and deepening our relationship with him. Reading and studying the Word everyday, seeking Him and also obeying him is key. We must trust his council in all things and he will direct our paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Vanessa HowellThese are very important and true points that you have made, and I agree with you. I have been reminded that, The Holy Spirit is a very present helper, guide, teacher, and he is the Spirit of Wisdom. Holy Spirit will also teach us about ourselves and help us to use scripture for our everyday life. The scripture says in John 14:26 that Holy spirit will bring all things to our remembrance, this is truly why a relationship with Holy Spirit is very important. Holy Spirit does effectively interpret the scriptures and make it plain for believers.
