DISCUSSION FORUM » The Difference Between the Talent Versus the Chosen of God

We need to first know what God considers a talent. A talent is one kind of stewardship (responsibility in the kingdom of God). The parable of the talents tells us that when we serve well in our stewardship, we will be given greater responsibilities. If we do not serve well our stewardship can be taken from us. (Matthew 14:25-30). This is part of the process that prepares us for the call He has upon our lives! He can fulfill His plan and purpose, through who we call the chosen.
What then do we mean we speak of being chosen by God? Being chosen by God serves as an invitation to fulfill a divine purpose in our lives for His glory. To be chosen, a person must accept his or her calling, be grateful for it, and move forward in serving God and His Son. (Ephesians 4:11-12) . We must respond to that call (invitation). It is a choice and positive action is required! (Philippians 3:13 KJV)

4 commentsThank you for your insight! One thing you said gave me a wondering, To be chosen, a person must accept his or her calling,... on if you can be chosen but not realize you are chosen. Sometimes were are looking for what God is wanting for us to do and not really realizing we have in fact been chosen to do a thing. That really makes me wonder how many people are truly chosen by God but not hearing or knowing. This is intriguing to me and great dialogue! Thank you!

Thank you for your comment and interest in hearing more! Yes, I believe we should all be responsible with what God has given us. I began my career in education and started out with 15 students and 1 assistant. We were located (back in the day) in a Self - Contained Room. I asked God, before the first day of school starting, why so few students my first-year teaching? I can handle more God! I can do this because I know You are with me! I quickly found out, the first day of school, why the Lord saw fit, to have only given me ONLY 15! Those 15 children needed mine and my assistant's undivided attention! They had our attention from receiving them in the morning to making sure they were on the right bus at the end of each and every day! Before I turned my lights off, before leaving (so tired I could hardly see somedays) the classroom, I would say, Yes Lord to Your Will and Your Way! This scripture was a source of strength, Ephesians 4:11-12 KJV, it is written that God gave some apostles; and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. The reason for the gift and talent to teach is, was, and will always be to glorify Him and edify the body! I first had to answer the call of God on my life for Him to be able to really and truly work through me. In answering the call, I felt the Holy Spirit and I knew in my heart I was chosen by God. Even more so, after answering the call, I knew I had a responsibility to be a good stewards/gate keeper of what He had given me. Having a talent is being a good steward as you go through the process of the call, He will expand your territory and reveal to you, what being chosen of God looks like and feels like. Using the gift/talent He had given me, to glorify Him, each year my numbers increased in the classroom. My responsibilities grew and God's favor followed me all the days of my life. In the book of Proverbs 3:3-4 tells us to Never let loyalty and kindness leave us! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people and will earn a good reputation. The chosen of God should have a good reputation, thus being a good steward of your gift and or talent. Amen

Tawanna TabornThanks for sharing Hope. I know this all to well in my own life of having to accept the calling. I remember when the Lord called me to Special Education, and I kept asking are you sure Lord and doubting what I had heard. After an entire semester of failing classes, completely struggling with things that were naturally easy and not sleeping I remember saying Yes to God and getting the most sound sleep I had had all semester. And even though I never operated as a Special Education teacher, the training that I received has helped me throughout my entire career tenure. I needed to say yes to what I had no desire for so He could fully use me to fulfill His plan and purpose. And because I am in tune with my own limitations I could always freely given Him the credit and keep doing it when it was hard and not glamorous.
