Summer Biblical Studies » The Brazen Altar

Helen Simmons
The Altar Hebrew meaning H4196: The place of sacrifice. A Holy Place. It is a noun formed from a verb (2076) means to slaughter an animal. What I believe is most significant regarding the Altar is that it deals
with our Salvation, and Worship. The Israelites, that enter into the outer court had to be saved people. This was a sacred place, Holy grounds. The Altar is the largest piece of furniture in the outer court. Brazen Altar was a place where God dwell in. The Israelites were able to meet God there, and be forgiven for their sins, however the animal sacrifices just covered the sin, it did not take the sins away.
The Uniqueness of the Altar was that it was mobile, the Holy Spirit would tell the Priest (Levites) when and where to move the Tabernacle. Hebrews 10:1:For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. Hebrews 10:10: For God's will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all times. Thank you, Lord Jesus. Now the altar is the church, that's every believer the Holy Spirits lives and dwells
in each of us. Only saved people should lead us in worship, because only saved people will be able to enter through the Holy Gates.

I agree with you Ms. Simmons that the uniqueness of the altar is that it is mobile. I praise God that He is omnipresence! We do not have to travel to the altar. As believers, the Holy Spirit dwells in us. In Hebrew 4:16, the scripture tells us- Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Jesus is the ultimate sacrifice, and His blood covers us. Thank you, Lord.
