During the time in the book of Judges, when there was no assigned King to rule over the children of Israel, there were several notable spiritual downfalls. One such downfall was the repeated idolatry that the Israelites fell into, which brought about disobedience. Despite the Lord's deliverance and faithfulness in bringing them out of Egypt and establishing them in the promised land, the Israelites repeatedly turned away from God and worshiped foreign gods Judges 2:11-12. The idolatry caused a decline and breakdown in their relationship with God. There was a lack of unity and cohesion among the Israelites, and instead of coming together as a nation under the guidance of the Judges, there was a constant struggle for power.
