DISCUSSION QUESTION

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him". Hebrews 11:6 reveals how faith is so important that it is impossible to please God without it. What would you say is the greatest area, among believers, where faith is lacking?

Counseling 5-1 » The affect of the pandemic on teen

Yashica Butler
During the pandemic the whole family was affected from the restrictions, and the fears of covid. Both the parents and the children were emotionally and mentally affected but it is obvious that the teenagers were probably inadvertently affected the most.
In the Erickson Stages of Development during a person’s teenage years social relationships are very important. At this time the teen must be able to establish and have friendships. During the pandemic families were told to stay in their homes unless they had to get essentials. Schools and churches were also shut down and everything was done over the internet. Teens were deprived of their social lives. Having friendships for teens is so important. As Dr. Riley stated before, telling teens they can't have friends is like life or death for them. The lack of a social life and being confined to their home had to be very depressing to them. During the pandemic people turned to social media like never before. Constantly being influenced by social media, with lack of being able to go to school, I feel the children began to take in a lot of wrong information. They began to take on the identity of social media influencers and trends like never before.
God intended for mankind to have relationships. As believers we are in a relationship with God. He created us in such a way that at certain times in our lives their would be different things that would affect our lives such as being a teen and social relationships an important relationship. Even Jesus thought it to be important enough in John 15:15 to tell the disciples, I no longer call you slaves, because the servants don’t know what their master is doing. But now I call you friends, because I have told you everything that My Father told Me.
This same way teens confide in their friends and discuss things that they may not share with their parents or family members. There was still the option to talk over the phone or social media, but these options aren’t as intimate as in person.

So True, children were yielding to social media like never before. They definitely learned a lot of misleading information and influencing from the internet. I believe many may have even felt forced to grow up fast mentally and emotionally. Causing imbalances for them chemically as they were introduced to so much secular perversion and sorcery from the music industry. Because in that time it also seemed that lust and darkness were magnified.

Yashica,

You are correct! Social relationships are very important. I believe having social relationships keep your mind from wondering and it help you to not feel isolated from the world. When COVID happened it was a shock to the nation and mostly affected the children. Sitting strolling on social media all day made those who were already dealing with certain issues worst off. Looking at all the mess being posted brought some children into a deeper depression.

Yashica,

You are correct! Personal relationships are very important, and nothing can take the place of them. This reminds me when Jesus spoke in John 14:15-18 that He would pray the Father, and the Father will give us another Comforter, that would abide with us, even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it see him not, neither know him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. Thank the Father for giving us the Holy Spirit to live in us, which Jesus spoke, I will not leave you comfortless and I will send the Holy Spirit to you.

During the pandemic, many people, including teenagers, felt lonely and isolated, leading to an increase in the suicide rate. However, if they had been taught about the comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit, they may not have felt so abandoned.
