Open Doors

Proverbs 26:2 (KJV) As the bird by wandering, as swallow by flying, so a curse causeless shall not come. A curse cannot come unless there is a cause, a door has been opened. Our lifestyles, behaviors, and practices can open the door to demonic spirits, potentially leading to mental trauma or distress. Disobedience and rejection of God are the primary causes that allow for demonic possession or oppression. As Dr. Riley discussed on Tuesday, Adam and Eve did not face any problems until they disobeyed God.
I Peter 5:8 (KJV) Be sober, be vigilant; because the adversary the devil, as a roaring lion walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. The devil (the thief) come to steal, kill and destroy John 10:10 (KJV). Satan seeks to distract and deceive people, drawing their focus away from God in an effort to tempt them to disobey. As we read in Luke chapter 2, the devil tried to tempt Jesus, but failed, as Jesus responded with the Word of God. We must follow this example, using Scripture to combat the devil's devices. By submitting to God and resisting the devil, we can keep the doors closed to demonic spirits. When we disobey God, we leave ourselves vulnerable to the devil's attacks. Continued disobedience, even when we know to do what is right, opens us up to demonic influences.

Certain lifestyles and behaviors can invite demonic spirits, such as generational curses stemming from previous satanic involvement in the family. Engaging in drug use and drug dealings, as well as following zodiac sign, astrology, contacting witches and warlocks can open the door to the spirit of divination. Engaging in practices like contacting spiritualists or certain types of yoga can potentially open the door to interacting with familiar spirits, which may result in mental health problems and emotional trauma. A lifestyle of habitual lying, gossiping, and deception can invite a spirit of dishonesty that causes trauma on one's family, friends, workplace, and even at church.

We must be mindful of our lifestyle, behavior, and daily practices. This requires regularly reading and reflecting on God's Word, while also asking the Holy Spirit to search our hearts and cleanse us from any unrighteousness. When the Holy Spirit convicts us that we have left a door open to sin or temptation, we must respond with repentance, prayer, and a seeking of God's help. We must be willing to confess our sins, and Jesus is faithful to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John1:9 (KJV).

Great posts Marilyn. You made so many good points. As someone who is born and slightly raised in Louisiana, I can say that I have seen some of these things up front. I have seen the damages that can come upon families from one generation upon the next from the practices of voodoo and all manner of witchcraft. I have seen these types of practices cause severe levels mental illness in the generations of those that did the actual acts of voodoo/witchcraft, but I've seen it travel through the generations and affect children, grandchildren, and prayerfully it won't consume the great grandchildren. I have witnessed schizophrenia, suicide, addictions, and more just overtake whole households. The Lord warned us that He visits the iniquities of the fathers to the third and fourth generations in Exodus34:7

Marilyn you are absolutely right! We must walk in obedience in order to keep these doors closed. It is very important to listen to Holy Spirit. He is our guide, he is the captain of the ship and knows all things. We have to rely on him to guide us in the way we should go. Listen to our hearts and what he is speaking because he is always right. We can avoid so much if we would just listen to the instructions of Holy Spirit.

Obedience is definitely the key that keeps us free from Demonic doors. Our lifestyles must be in line with God’s word. We must daily evaluate ourselves and our lives to maintain obedience to the Word and will of God for our lives. That no ungodly door would be open. Greatly said!
