COURSE 26 - SERMON PREPARATION » The Impact of instruction on being a preacher of the Word vs being the hearer of the Word

Paula Bingham
There is no way a Man or Woman of God can hear a Word instruction for the people and not do it. The says in 2 Timothy 2:6 that, the hardworking farmer must be first to partake of the crops. The Word of God is full of instruction, if we don't first do what it says as preachers of the Word, we are hypocrites. Jesus called out the Pharisees and the Sadducees for doing this very thing. They would teach the law to the people, but oftentimes would not obey it themselves. Jesus said to the disciples in Matthew 23, the teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy, cumbersome loads and put them on other people's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. Everything they do is done for people to see; they make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called Rabbi by others. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
