COURSE 26 - SERMON PREPARATION » The Impact of Instruction Being a Preacher of the Word Versus the Hearer of the Word

Preparation should be a priority for anyone called to minister the Word of God because the role of a preacher carries a weight of responsibility that goes beyond merely hearing the Word. II Timothy 3:16 reads All scripture is given by inspiration of God.. for instruction in righteousness This instruction serves not only as guidance for showing us the right way of living but also as divine training for those entrusted to teach and lead others. A preacher must be instructed in the scriptures to rightly divide the Word of truth (II Timothy 2:15). Without preparation, the message can be misrepresented, leading others astray. Instruction molds the preacher's character, deepens their understanding, and equips them to speak with authority, clarity, and spiritual power. While hearers of the Word are called to receive and apply the truth, preachers are commissioned to deliver that truth! James 1:22 encourages believers to be doers of the word, and not hearers only, but for the preacher, doing includes faithfully teaching others to follow Christ. Instruction brings discernment, enabling the preacher to confront error, offer correction, and lead others in righteousness. Proper preparation under the instruction of God's Word ensures that the preacher is not just repeating words but releasing life-changing truth that aligns with God's heart and purpose.

4 commentsYes Hope, a preacher must be guided in the Word of God as well. Not only is He to rightly divide the Word of Truth, but He is to be a partaker. The bible says in 2 Timothy 2:6, The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits. Paul reiterated this also in 1 Corinthians 9: 27, he said, But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

Paula BinghamGreat way of expounding on the word of God and making it clear on the points of Instructions. It is made clear of your comparison of Preacher vs Hearer. It is very important for the Preacher to give sound teaching and instruction and for the Hearer to take the word and engage it 2Timothy 2:15 says Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. great word Hope.
