COURSE 24 - THE ORDER OF FAMILY » Disadvantage of Prioritizing ministry duties

Tawanna Taborn
I believe that our first ministry is to our family at home. How can I go and serve others and my family at home is not in ordered or cared for. I believe our family seeing how we care for others but not them could have a sense resentment toward the ministry. The part that stuck out to me the most was talking about adult children that we can't be passive when parenting and continue to be intentional with open opportunities to share Gods love and promise along with prayer. His word does say faith without works is dead. That is my thought to the post.

Tawana, I agree with you! Our first ministry is to our family. Scripture clearly supports this principle. In 1 Timothy 5:8, But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. This verse emphasizes that caring for our family physically, emotionally, and spiritually is not optional but foundational to our faith. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs us on what we need to do, These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road when you lie down, and when you get up. This shows that discipleship starts in the home. We must be intentional in teaching our children about God's love and promises, ensuring that they grow up knowing Him personally. Loved your strong conviction of family first! God bless you!

Tawana, thanks for sharing. Our family deserve to get the best of us. I can agree that caring for others and not your family can cause resentment. Recently, I was purchasing some items for one of my students who had a house fire and my daughter was with me. She asked if she could get something and my initial thought was to say no. The Lord intervened immediately because He allowed me to think through that response. Although, my daughter maybe would have understood why I was shopping for the student, If I had said no, she could have easily felt as if the student's needs were more important and could have easily felt anger and resentment towards me and her school mate. In this moment, I was able to show my daughter the importance of blessing others, but also the importance of caring for family needs.
