Christian Counseling

As a Christian pursuing a degree in Christian Counseling, I believe the church (individuals) should be doing what Jesus taught to eradicate this stigma and that is to Love our neighbors as ourselves. We are to build one another up and not pull one another down. The Holy Spirit is here to lead and guide us. However, when there is no influence of the Holy Spirit, where is the gentleness, kindness, love, longsuffering with one another? 1Peter 4:8-10 says,
8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
We are to minister to one another showing loving. One thing that stuck out to me on the counseling terminology sheet was Active Listening. Sometimes we don't listen closely to one another giving eye contact. When you give eye contact it shows interest in what the person is saying. The first point was to Be aware not to give the impression that you don't care. When people believe you don't care they will distance themselves from you. They call it church hurt. Too much judging and not enough loving going on. Galatians 5:14For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Individuals must get an understanding of what the triggers are in mental health. Get an understanding of what triggered the depression, anxiety, suicide attempt. In the book entitled The Transformation of the Inner Man Page 11 it says that Christian healing comes then not by making a broken thing good enough to work, but by delivering us from the power of that broken thing so that it can no longer rule us, and by teaching us to trust His righteousness to shine in and through that very thing. These principles have to be taught. The Holy Spirit is a teacher.
