Submission & Authority » Purpose of Ordained Authority

Vanessa Howell
When I think about ordained authority I think about it being authority from the Holy Spirit. We cannot ordain ourselves or give authority to ourselves, it comes from God. In 2 Peter 1:20-21 it says that knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. The purpose of this ordained authority in the church is to do the things of God and not what we want or desire to do. The church is to do righteous things in truth and order. In John 16 it says when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. We have to be sensitive to the word of the Lord. Proverbs 3:5 says to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. It is not about what we want to do but what we have been called to do!

Vanessa, I like when you said, the purpose of this ordained authority in the church is to do the things of God and not what we want or desire to do. Honestly, this flesh does not want to submit to authority. Romans 8:6-11 says, the mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. God ordains us to come under authority of the leader so that we can he can get the glory out of our lives. We live on this earth for his purpose and plan, not our own.

Vanessa yes, I love this scripture Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. That scripture along with your view of order and allowing the Holy Spirit to move and guide us and knowing God can only give us the authority. This is so good, and you are right God will direct us into truth.
