COURSE 16 - GIFTS OF THE FATHER » Least utilized or understood gift of the Father

Paula Bingham
In my opinion, the gift of the Father that is least used or utilized is the gift of mercy. Many people are not tuned into the needs and feelings of others. The bible says in 2 Timothy 3:2 that in the last days, men will become lovers of themselves. People in these days and times are not as mindful of others as they were back in ages past. Oftentimes, even prayers are selfish. We as a people think more about our families, finance, employment, heath, and forget about the state of others. The bible tells us in Philippians 3:2 to consider others better than ourselves.

Scriptures says in Matthew 5:7: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. If we want others to consider us when we are in need, we need to consider others. While on earth, Jesus always put others needs before his own. He feed the five thousand because he was sensitive to their needs. Jesus also had compassion on people when he healed them. If we claim that Christ lives on the inside of us, we need to be merciful as well.

Thank you Paula, I agree with what you shared. Sometimes mercy given can be superficial as well. It comes across ingenuine when people really need it. The word says in Luke 6:36 to be merciful, just as your Father also is merciful. I think sometimes people forget that they can be in a vulnerable place at some point too and they would want someone to show true mercy to them.

Mrs. Paula, yes that gift of mercy I can see that least being utilized. And you make a good point about our prayers being selfish and thinking of what we want and need and not as much of what the Holy Spirit is giving us to pray for, I can see myself in that category at times I can appreciate a gentle reminder. However, I like how you reference Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy, it's comforting to know giving out mercy it shall be returned to you. Thank you for this encouraging post.

We are to show mercy, the scripture in Matthew 5:7 says, Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. But people would almost always look for God and others to show them mercy. I believe what you say about men becoming lovers of themselves, we see a lot of that now when people are not willing to help anyone else just their four and no more. 2 Timothy 3:2 states it very clear. We are to have compassion like Christ he never considers himself or put himself first. Truth be told he taught his disciples to be the same and go out and teach others too.
