COURSE 11 - CHRISTIAN ROOT SYSTEM » Importance for Growth as a New Christian

Vanessa Howell
One of the most things needed to maintain and grow as a new Christian is to begin reading and studying the Word of God. In Romans 15:4 it says for whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. This is true for mature Christians as well. Studying the Word of we learn the heart of God which is key to a newly translated Christian. We know that the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart as noted in 1 Samuel 16:7b. Also studying faith is key because it is critical to believing the word of God is foundational. We know from Scripture states that but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) If I someone would have pointed me in the direction of studying about faith after I accepted Christ it would have brought me much further along because that is where the enemy attacked me the most. God still made a way for me though! Our God is Able!

Vanessa, thank you for your persuasive response in challenging believers to read and study God's Word to maintain spiritual growth. I remember when I first became a Christian(translated), how I read and read the bible, I was so excited, then I would read on and off. Sometimes, just when I attended Sunday School and Church. to be totally honest. During that I was not growing as God had intended, I became stagnant or complacent. Stagnation does not end until something is done about it. Deuteronomy 2:3 talks about Israel, and they had to do something to end stagnation. The people were being led by Moses. It took 40 years to complete a journey that should have taken 14 days! We should never become complacent but always hungry for God's Word to become stronger in Him to obey and fulfill His will for our lives! Amen

Vanessa I truly believe that as well, as a new Christian studying Gods word is important. Proverbs 4: 4-5 He also taught me and said to me let your heart retain my words keep my command, and live. Get understanding! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Having faith is at the top as well for maintaining spiritual growth. 2 Corinthians 5:7 shares for we walk by faith and not by sight. Great post Vanessa thanks for sharing.

The word of God is truth, and we must believe that God is able to do all he says he would do. The scripture in Hebrews 11:6b says, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. We must have faith because without it we can't please him. I believe studying the word of God is key and very important, as it is one of the ways he (God) talks to us, and it helps create a stronger, real and more personal relationship with him.

Vanessa thanks for sharing your response and your triumphant testimony. Like you, I believe one of the most important aspects is studying the word of God. Learning what the word says is the foundation and is very much needed for one's spiritual development. I am so glad God looks at our heart and not our outer appearance. The enemy is a deceiver and he will attack us however He can, but I am so glad we serve a MIGHTY God!
