COURSE 9 - HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD » Hearing and Obeying the Voice of God

Hope Khalil
The importance of Christians hearing and obeying the voice of God is crucial in knowing what God wants us to do, go, and say while we are here on this earth. It has always been the will and plan of God, that we as believers hear His voice! God is a speaking God, and we as Christians should expect Him to speak to us. There is actual dialogue, in the bible of God speaking to His people. In the Old Testament, He speaks mostly to leaders and tells them specifically what to do, where to go, and what to say, specifically! The first mention of God speaking is found in Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. Another example of God speaking to mankind is found in Exodus 3:1-10 Where the burning bush was on fire but not being consumed. Moses heard the voice of God and again in Exodus 33:10, God spoke to Moses face to face! How exciting is it to know that at the very moment we were translated, the Spirit of God began to commune with us Spirit to Spirit. We are born of God, called the Sons of God which are led by His Spirit! How are we led by the Spirit? We are led by God speaking to us either in dreams, visions or any other way He would allow us to know it is Him guiding us! As we grow in His Spirit and spend time in His presence, we become mature and can follow His leading. In the New Testament Romans 8:14 reads, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. In Isaiah 30:21 it says And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, this is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. If we take the time to pray, pay attention to what is happening around us, and continually commune with Him, He will speak to us! At that point, it will be our choice to obey after He has shown us the way by the leading of the Holy Spirit!

Thanks Hope for going into deep details in providing examples of people who heard from God in the Bible. I believe Christians must hear and obey the voice of God because he gives us specific instructions for his plans for our lives and it is vital for us walk out our purpose. In Genesis 12:1 it says Now the Lord had said to Abram: Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you. History would have looked very different but God's will was done. Amen.

Hope this is good. I am so glad God is a speaking God and He shares with us the will and plan. I love how you acknowledge that we have the choice ro obey Him. We don't always choose the right choices and the consequence of this can be detrimental sometimes. But even in our disobedience God is still a gracious and loving God.
