COURSE 8 - DEVELOPING A LIFE OF PRAYER & COMMUNION » RE: Importance of Prayer

I believe all the prayer types are important. I think intercession is best because Jesus is our Chief intercessor, and he forever makes intercession. In Hebrews 7:25 it tells us he is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. Jesus was constantly interceding for people and the disciples. He would always steal away early in the morning to have time with God and I believe he was interceding for the multitudes. In Luke 22:41 it says He was withdrawn from them about a stoneââ'¬â¢s throw, and He knelt down and prayed. Jesus always prayed to our Father our Lord about everything that was happening and to provide healing and salvation. He set an example for the disciples so that they could see that he prayed to God for His will to be done.

4 commentsVanessa, thank you for sharing your thoughts. Prayer of intercession is indeed a powerful type of prayer. God is our intercessor and He has most definitely interceded on our behalf. I love how you acknowledged that God set an example of how to pray, intercede and prayed for the will of God.

Kristy HammondYes Vanessa, Intercession is a powerful prayer. When we can get our minds off ourselves and pray for someone else, we are doing the will of the Father. Jesus prays for us all the time and He is our example. Holy Spirit also intercedes for us! I thank God for my prayer language because it is a perfect prayer. The bible says, we don't know how to pray as we ought. So, I thank God for Holy Spirit who prays through me.

Paula BinghamJesus is our Chief intercessor; he is now seated in heaven on the right-hand side of the Father still interceding for us according to the scripture in Romans 8:34. Jesus is our great example he came and paved the way for us and reminding us throughout scriptures that greater works that we will do. This is very good to know that he prayed for us while he was here and now in heaven interceding for us. When he taught the disciples how to pray, he wants us to do everything that he did. The obedience and ultimate sacrifice Christ made for us in the garden Gethsemane and on the cross shows his true love for us and teaches us we will go through somethings, but he taught us how to go through and how to pray.

Vanessa, I agree with you in that Jesus is our Chief intercessor and makes intercession for all of us! The scripture you shared from Hebrews 7:25 was point on! What an example Jesus was when He was on this earth by interceding for people and His disciples. He took the best part of the day, first thing in the morning to pray! He could hear His Father's voice; I am sure when all was still and quiet. I too believe he was interceding for the everyone during those quit moments in prayer. I believe the only time Jesus actually prayed for Himself was in the Garden of Gethsemane the night of His betrayal and arrest NIV, Mark 14:32-41 Inverse 36 He prayed Abba, Father, he said, everything is possible for You. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what You will. He submitted completely to His Father 's will but was in deep, deep distress, knowing what was going to happen very soon. Thank you for brining me to the foot of the cross, reminding me that through His obedience and sacrifice, we can go to the father where Jesus sits on the right hand of HIs father to forever intercede for us and those we stand in the gap for as well. God bless you! Hope
