Advanced NT Survey 5-1 » Jesus the Messiah

The most significant instances begin with Jesus' life as a child. He was very wise as shown in Luke 2:41-52 when he was lost and found in the temple. The bible says the people around who were doctors of the law. This is supported by Isaiah chapter 11:1-3 that talks about the coming Messiah having a spirit of counsel and wisdom. Jesus demonstrates this in his every day encounters prior to him being called into fulltime ministry. Also, Luke 2:52 specifically states that, Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. Isaiah also says he will have wisdom and the gospels make record on several occasions such as Matthew 7:29 which demonstrates Jesus' knowledge when he taught the people. Isaiah 53 says the Messiah will be despised and rejected of men. We see that on several occasions in the gospels, even to the point where Jesus escaped for his life in John 10:39. In other Messianic scriptures such as Micah 5:2 note the location where the sent one shall come. Jesus was born in Bethlehem just as the scripture states. There are several natural instances. His family rejected him just as the scripture makes of mention of the stone that the builder refused. Lastly, Zechariah 9:9 says, ...behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey. Jesus fulfilled many prophecies while on earth.

1 commentsSabrina you made very valid points and it is so true that Jesus fulfilled many prophies while on here on earth. Your reference to Isaiah 53 helps us as Christians understand the foreshadowing of the life, suffering, death, and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Messiah. The verses point towards Jesus' life and mission as foretold by the Old Testament prophets. Isaiah 53:5 is seen as a depiction of Jesus' silent submission to his crucifixion and suffering, as described in the Gospels. He is truly our Messiah
